Option 1:\u00a0Disable sync at the library level<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you want to generally allow synchronization in your environment, but restrict specific libraries from being synchronized, you can disable sync locally, for a given document library. Here is how to do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Navigate to the library where you want to disable sync, then click Gear Icon > Library Settings<\/strong>\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive2\"<\/li>
  2. Click on Advanced Settings<\/strong>\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive3\"<\/li>
  3. Scroll down to the middle of the page, and under Offline Client Availability<\/strong>, select No<\/strong> (default is Yes<\/strong>)\"disable<\/li>
  4. Click OK<\/strong> at the bottom<\/li>
  5. You will now notice that the library lacks a Sync Button\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive6\"<\/li>
  6. And by the way, if the user synchronized this library before sync-de-activation, he\/she will see the following message pop-up on their screens. They will still retain the data they synchronized previously though\"disable<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Option 2: Disable sync at the Site level<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    You can go one step further and disable sync for a given site. Very important to note, I am talking about sites and not site collections here. Click here<\/strong><\/a> to understand the difference. This trick might be useful if I am a Site Owner and have several document libraries on my site<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Navigate to the site where you want to disable synchronization. Click Gear Icon > Site Information<\/strong>\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive7\"<\/li>
    2. Click View all site settings<\/strong>. If on the classic wiki page, you can click Gear Icon > Site Settings<\/strong> instead of these two steps.\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive8\"<\/li>
    3. Click on Search and offline availability<\/strong> under Search<\/strong><\/li>
    4. Under Offline Client Availability<\/strong> select No<\/strong> (default is Yes<\/strong>)\"disable<\/li>
    5. Click OK<\/strong> at the bottom of the page<\/li>
    6. Just like with Library changes above, you will see the Sync button disappear from the library (or all libraries located on this site).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      How to disable sync of user\u2019s OneDrive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      You can also prevent synchronization of the user\u2019s own OneDrive for Business. This way users won\u2019t be able to access their files unless they log in to OneDrive via a website. To do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. App Launcher > Admin<\/strong>\"Howtodisablesyncsharepointonedrive12\"<\/li>
      2. Navigate to OneDrive Admin Center<\/strong><\/li>
      3. Click Sync<\/strong>, then uncheck Show the Sync button on the OneDrive website checkbox<\/strong> (it is checked<\/strong> by default), then click Save<\/strong>\"disable<\/li>
      4. Wait a few hours (it takes a while to propagate through tenant)<\/li>
      5. You will now notice that the Sync button in the user\u2019s OneDrive has disappeared<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
