FIPS stands for \u201cFederal Information Processing Standards.\u201d It is a set of government standards that define how certain things are used in the government\u2014for example, encryption algorithms. This setting in not available on the Home version of Microsoft Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the FIPS-Complaint Encryption option is enabled, this can block Microsoft\u2019s .NET framework from accessing computer functions, procedures, and subroutines that are not FIPS-validated. This may result in improper functioning of software not FIPS-validated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This issue can be easily corrected by accessing and modifying the computer\u2019s Local Policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To disable FIPS-Complaint Encryption, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click on the Windows\u00a0<strong>Start button<\/strong>, then type\u00a0<strong>Control Panel<\/strong>\u00a0into the search box, and then press the\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>\u00a0key.<br><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"979\" height=\"850\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Img-1.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>In Control Panel, double click on\u00a0<strong>Administrative Tools<\/strong>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"933\" height=\"742\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Img-2.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>In Administrative Tools, locate and double click on\u00a0<strong>Local Security Policy<\/strong>.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1033\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Img-3.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>The Local Security Policy application will be displayed. In Security Settings, expand\u00a0<strong>Local Policies<\/strong>, and then click\u00a0<strong>Security Options\u00a0<\/strong>as shown below.<br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"982\" height=\"706\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Img-4.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>Locate the\u00a0<strong>System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing<\/strong>\u00a0setting in the displayed panel and then double click on it.<br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"982\" height=\"706\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Updated-Img-5.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>The following dialog box will be displayed. Select the\u00a0<strong>Disabled<\/strong>\u00a0radio button entry and then click on the\u00a0<strong>[Apply]<\/strong>\u00a0button.<br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"521\" height=\"634\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Img-6.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>The\u00a0<strong>System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing<\/strong>\u00a0status should now be set to\u00a0<strong>Disabled<\/strong>.<br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"982\" height=\"706\" src=\"https:\/\/knowledge.civilgeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2020\/09\/Disabling-FIPS-Complaint-Encryption-Updated-Img-7.png\" alt=\"\"><\/li><li>Restart the computer.
