When you start up Windows 10 for the first time, Microsoft Defender Antivirus is on and actively helping to protect your device by scanning for malware (malicious software), viruses, and security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft Defender Antivirus uses real-time protection to scan your downloads and the programs you run on your device. Also, Windows Update downloads updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus automatically to help keep your device safe and protect it from threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows Security shows you how Microsoft Defender Antivirus has been protecting you. It shows you when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your device was last scanned for threats.<\/li><li>Your definitions were last updated. Definitions are files that Microsoft Defender Antivirus uses to protect your device against the latest threats.<\/li><li>The Device performance and health scan was run to ensure your device is operating efficiently.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting with\u00a0<strong>Windows 10 17093<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>Account protection<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Device security<\/strong>\u00a0protection areas have been added to the Windows Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows Security has seven areas that protect your device and let you specify how you want your device protected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Virus &amp; threat protection<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Monitor threats to your device, run scans, and get updates to help detect the latest threats. In\u00a0<strong>Windows 10\u00a0version\u00a01709<\/strong>, the section also provides configuration options for\u00a0<strong>Controlled folder<\/strong>\u00a0access.<\/li><li><strong>Account protection<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Makes it easier for users to protect their identity when signing in to Windows with the new Account Protection pillar in Windows Security. Account Protection will encourage password users to set up Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint or PIN for faster sign in, and will notify Dynamic lock users if Dynamic lock has stopped working because their phone or device Bluetooth is off.<\/li><li><strong>Firewall &amp; network protection<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Manage the settings for Windows Defender Firewall, and monitor what\u2019s happening with your networks and Internet connections.<\/li><li><strong>App &amp; browser control<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Lets you use Microsoft Defender SmartScreen to help protect your device against potentially dangerous apps, files, sites, and downloads. Also provides exploit protection where you can customize protection settings for your devices. In\u00a0<strong>Windows 10\u00a0version\u00a01709<\/strong>, the section also provides configuration options for\u00a0<strong>Exploit protection<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Device security<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Gives you greater insight into the security features integrated in your Windows device. The Device Security page provides you with status reporting and management of security features built into your devices \u2013 including toggling features on to provide enhanced protections.<\/li><li><strong>Device performance &amp; health<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; See status about your device\u2019s performance health and keep your device clean and up to date with the latest version of Windows 10.<\/li><li><strong>Family options<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Provides easy access to managing your childrens\u2019 online experiences and the devices in your household.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting with\u00a0<strong>Windows 10\u00a0version\u00a01709<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>Virus &amp; threat protection<\/strong>\u00a0area can be hidden from users of the PC. (see screenshot above)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4\u00a0Do\u00a0<strong>step 5<\/strong>\u00a0(show) or\u00a0<strong>step 6<\/strong>\u00a0(hide) below for what you would like to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a>5<\/a>&nbsp;To Show &#8220;Virus &amp; threat protection&#8221; in Windows Security<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A) Select (dot)\u00a0<strong>Not Configured<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Disabled<\/strong>, click\/tap on\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>, and go to\u00a0<strong>step 7<\/strong>\u00a0below. (see screenshot below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Not Configured<\/strong>&nbsp;is the default setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To Hide &#8220;Virus &amp; threat protection&#8221; in Windows Security<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A) Select (dot)\u00a0<strong>Enabled<\/strong>, click\/tap on\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>, and go to\u00a0<strong>step 7<\/strong>\u00a0below.
