{"id":4546,"date":"2023-01-10T11:10:34","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T19:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/SUMMALAI.COM\/?p=4546"},"modified":"2023-01-10T11:10:36","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T19:10:36","slug":"how-to-turn-off-internet-explorer-enhanced-security-configuration-on-an-old-windows-server-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/SUMMALAI.COM\/?p=4546","title":{"rendered":"How To Turn Off Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration on an old Windows Server (2008)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> use it to run Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V.\u00a0 I run all kinds of Virtual Machines on the W510 because it has 16GB of physical RAM.\u00a0 There are however a few hiccups in the process of using a Windows Server Machine to do demonstrations.\u00a0 This is one of the first I encountered.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/2235.esc1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/0675.esc1_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"esc1\" title=\"esc1\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When you hit Internet Explorer for the first time (and every time) to demo something online you are presented with this lovely message.&nbsp; Windows Server 2008 R2 has a built in Internet Explorer Security Configuration enabled for any user who sits at the console of the server.&nbsp; Now I totally understand why you would want this enabled on the vast majority of your servers.&nbsp; However there are circumstances, like mine for example where I want to change the default behavior.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to disable the IE ESC here is what you do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp; Open the Server Manager Tool. Configure IE ESC is located on the right hand side of the interface in the section heading Security Information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/4073.esc2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/7041.esc2_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"esc2\" title=\"esc2\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Select the link Configure IE Esc and the configuration window will open.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/7610.esc3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/7522.esc3_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"esc3\" title=\"esc3\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point you can choose whether to turn off IE ESC for Administrators or for Users or for both.&nbsp; I am going to turn it off for administrators since my account is an administrative account.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp; Open Internet Explorer and notice the glaring Warnings that IE ESC has been disabled.&nbsp; I find it funny that we list exactly how to turn IE ESC back on but on the initial page we never told you how to turn it off.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/6052.esc4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/6471.esc4_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"esc4\" title=\"esc4\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4.&nbsp; If you would like you can change the Local Intranet Zone settings or you can simply request not to have the message displayed in the future.&nbsp; And then you can visit Bing.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/0513.esc6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/msdntnarchive.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/TNBlogsFS\/prod.evol.blogs.technet.com\/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles\/00\/00\/00\/46\/64\/metablogapi\/8535.esc6_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"esc6\" title=\"esc6\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>5.&nbsp; One last suggestion.
