The article assumes that the reader is well knowledgeable with regards to administrating Windows Servers, Group Policy making and setting resource permissions.<\/li><li>This article applies to Windows Server 2008 or newer, including Windows Server 2019 Active Directory Group Policy.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>RingCentral App desktop is also available in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.ringcentral.com\/download\/RingCentral-x64.msi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Installer package<\/a>, to enable system administrators and application roll-out teams to seamlessly deploy the app to many Windows workstations from a central location. RingCentral App desktop MSI installer can be be set to push install from a Microsoft Group Policy object, users will see the install process when they log-in to their machines or restarted it, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNXv\" alt=\"push deploy of RingCentral app desktop\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To push deploy RingCentral App desktop to domain member workstations, do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>From the Windows Active Directory Domain Controller Server, click&nbsp;<strong>Start<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt; type &#8220;<strong>gpmc.msc<\/strong>&#8221; (Group Policy Management Console) without the double quotes.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNor\" alt=\"Group Policy Management Console\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>The Group Policy Management window will appear. Expand&nbsp;<strong>Forest &gt; Domains &gt; (name of domain) &gt; Group Policy Objects &gt; (name of Domain Policy)<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Right-click the&nbsp;<strong>Domain policy<\/strong>&nbsp;where you wish to deploy the RingCentral Microsoft Installer package. Choose&nbsp;<strong>Edit<\/strong>&nbsp;from the menu.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNrC\" alt=\"Domain policy\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>The&nbsp;<strong>Group Policy Management Editor<\/strong>&nbsp;appears, from this point \u2013 a question needs to be answered. Do you wish to deploy RingCentral App desktop&nbsp;<em>per-user<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>per-machine<\/em>? &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>If per-user, Navigate starting&nbsp;<strong>from User Configuration &gt; Policies &gt; Software Settings.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNrl\" alt=\"per user install\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\"><li>Alternatively, for per-machine deployment, Navigate starting from&nbsp;<strong>Computer Configuration &gt; Policies &gt; Software Settings.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNrq\" alt=\"per machine install\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\"><li>Right-click&nbsp;<strong>Software Installation &gt; New &gt; Package&#8230;<\/strong>&nbsp;menu. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>The&nbsp;<strong>Open<\/strong>&nbsp;dialog box appears; choose the&nbsp;<strong>RingCentral App desktop msi installer<\/strong>&nbsp;from its network path common installation source. Group Policy Management Editor will not accept it if the source of the MSI file is from a local folder. GPMC requires that the MSI file is stored in a shared network folder where all users and computers that need the RingCentral app desktop have permissions to access.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNsP\" alt=\"open msi\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\"><li>The&nbsp;<strong>Deploy Software<\/strong>&nbsp;dialog box appears, choose the&nbsp;<strong>Assign<\/strong>&nbsp;radio button to accept the default install behavior of the MSI file or choose the&nbsp;<strong>Advanced<\/strong>&nbsp;radio button to further tweak its install properties.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNtm\" alt=\"assign or advanced\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"10\"><li><strong>RingCentral App MSI&nbsp;<\/strong>will appear on the queue for push installation to the workstations or users, depending on the chosen path between step #5 or step #6. Per-user install will happen as soon as the user logs-in to the Windows workstation with network connection. Per-machine install will happen after a restart of the PC or straight from a cold boot.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"install roll-out from the network share complete\" height=\"254\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZNvE\" width=\"500\"><br><br><strong>To remove RingCentral App desktop installed via GPO do the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open&nbsp;<strong>Group Policy Management Editor&nbsp;<\/strong>(similar to step 4 above).<\/li><li>From the left-pane, navigate to the&nbsp;<strong>Software Installation<\/strong>&nbsp;subheading.<\/li><li>Right-click<strong>&nbsp;the name of the software<\/strong>&nbsp;that requires to be uninstalled from the workstations, in this case&nbsp;<strong>RingCentral app<\/strong>.<\/li><li>From the right-click context menu, choose&nbsp;<strong>All Task &gt; Remove<\/strong>&nbsp;option.<\/li><li>The&nbsp;<strong>Remove software<\/strong>&nbsp;dialog box appears, choose a&nbsp;<strong>removal method<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.ringcentral.com\/servlet\/rtaImage?eid=ka12H000000HFxR&amp;feoid=00N2H000005hrOe&amp;refid=0EM2H000001ZQRb\" alt=\"removal dialog box\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>First is to&nbsp;<em>immediately remove the software from the users and computers<\/em>, while the second option&nbsp;<em>enables the user to continue using RingCentral app that is already installed in their workstations, but it will not be updated again<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br><strong>NOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It isn\u2019t possible to pass MSIEXEC filters (switches) to an MSI file deployed with Active Directory Group Policy. This can be done with an alternative method by creating a Microsoft Transform file (MST) to install custom parameters through Group Policy. MST file is generated using a Microsoft tool called ORCA, which Microsoft describes as: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/win32\/msi\/orca-exe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a database table editor for creating and editing Windows Installer packages and merge modules.<\/a>&#8220;<\/li><li>The use of Orca tool is beyond the scope of this article. We recommend you visit this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120714141838\/http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/255905\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">archived version of a Microsoft knowledgebase article<\/a>&nbsp;explaining how to use it.
