It\u2019s important to keep your app up to date with the latest version of Company Portal. We recently had a change in enrollment certificates which required a Company Portal update for some users, and after talking with a few customers who weren\u2019t aware of why and how to keep the company portal updated, we thought it would be good to provide this support tip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few reasons to keep your Company Portal updated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Prevent security risks that can occur on older OS versions<\/li><li>Certificate expirations which could prevent access<\/li><li>New features, bug fixes, or changes to the UI<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId-1232262479\">How to keep your device updated<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When using Android devices, it is up to you as a user to keep the app updated. There are two options to keeping your Company Portal updated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Recommended: Turn on Auto-Updates within the Google Play store, this will ensure that you always have the latest version on your device.<\/li><li>Ensure your notifications are turned on for Google Play Store to let you know when your app needs to be updated. (Don\u2019t delay after seeing the notification or you might forget!)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: You won\u2019t see a prompt within the Company Portal app that an update is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId--575191984\">How to update automatically<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to turn on auto-updates follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open Google Play store and select the&nbsp;<strong>Menu<\/strong>&nbsp;icon<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Settings<\/strong><\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Auto-update apps<\/strong>&nbsp;and choose one of the following:<ul><li>Over any network. Data charges may apply<\/li><li>Over Wi-Fi only<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219733i975BFD62A3091CF0\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 1 captioned Fig 1. Auto-update apps options<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to auto-update over Wi-Fi to save on possible data charges, see below on how to connect to Wi-Fi automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId-1912320849\">How to update manually<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to update manually by receiving Google Play notifications do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open Google Play store and select the&nbsp;<strong>Menu<\/strong>&nbsp;icon<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>My apps &amp; games<\/strong><\/li><li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Intune Company Portal<\/strong>&nbsp;app to update (or select Update All)<ol><li>If prompted, review App Permissions, then select Accept to proceed with the app update<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219737iCD08E61C2DAE3CB3\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 5 captioned Google Play Store - Manually update apps\"><em>Google Play Store &#8211; Manually update apps<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId-104866386\">Set up your Wi-Fi to connect automatically<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your settings for updates are limited to Wi-Fi connections to prevent possible data usage, it\u2019s helpful to set up your device to connect to Wi-Fi networks automatically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open your device&#8217;s&nbsp;<strong>Settings menu<\/strong><\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Network &amp; Internet<\/strong><\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong><\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<strong>Wi-Fi preferences<\/strong><\/li><li>Turn on&nbsp;<strong>Connect to open networks<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219738iB50C352EBB7EFCA4\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 6 captioned Android Settings\"><em>Android Settings<\/em>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219739iE7ED94E986D3CECA\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 7 captioned Android - Network &amp; internet settings\"><em>Android &#8211; Network &amp; internet settings<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219740iA7FE006CEC3FDE42\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 8 captioned Android - Wi-Fi settings\"><em>Android &#8211; Wi-Fi settings<\/em>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219741i4B930A3B0FB3CE04\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 9 captioned Android - Wi-Fi preferences\"><em>Android &#8211; Wi-Fi preferences<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId--1702588077\">Administrative options for updating apps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Device restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an IT admin, you can also ensure your user has the latest Company Portal version by setting up device restrictions for users enrolled with fully managed, dedicated, and corporate-owned devices by following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Navigate to&nbsp;<strong>Devices &gt; Android &gt; Configuration policy<\/strong><\/li><li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Create Profile<\/strong><ol><li>Platform: Android Enterprise<\/li><li>Profile: Select Device restrictions under Fully Managed, Dedicated, and Corporate-Owned Work Profile<br>&lt;&lt;Screenshot&gt;&gt;<\/li><li>Open&nbsp;<strong>Applications<\/strong>&nbsp;within the accordion<\/li><li>Set&nbsp;<strong>App auto-updates<\/strong>: Devices check for app updates daily. Choose when automatic updates are installed:<ol><li><strong>Not configured<\/strong>: Intune doesn&#8217;t change or update this setting.<\/li><li><strong>User choice<\/strong>: The OS might default to this option. Users can set their preferences in the managed Google Play app.<\/li><li><strong>Never<\/strong>: Updates are never installed. This option isn&#8217;t recommended.<\/li><li><strong>Wi-Fi only<\/strong>: Updates are installed only when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.<\/li><li><strong>Always<\/strong>: Updates are installed when they&#8217;re available.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219744iD175570FA11CE98C\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 10 captioned Android Enterprise - Device restriction profile\"><em>Android Enterprise &#8211; Device restriction profile<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on Device restrictions for Android Enterprise see this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/mem\/intune\/configuration\/device-restrictions-android-for-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">documentation<\/a>. App auto-updates aren\u2019t available for devices enrolled with Android device administrator or Android work profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"toc-hId-784924756\">Configure Conditional Launch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another option as an IT admin is to configure a minimum Company Portal version within c<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/mem\/intune\/apps\/app-protection-policy-settings-android#conditional-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">onditional launch settings<\/a>&nbsp;to prevent users from accessing company resources if they need to update Company Portal. This can be configured by doing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Navigate to&nbsp;<strong>Apps<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>App protection policy<\/strong><\/li><li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Create policy<\/strong>&nbsp;and choose&nbsp;<strong>Android<\/strong><\/li><li>Under Conditional Launch &gt; Device conditions, select&nbsp;<strong>Min Company Portal version<br><\/strong><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219746iA97C11E2BFC411ED\/image-size\/medium?v=v2&amp;px=400\" alt=\"thumbnail image 11 captioned Android Enterprise - Device restriction profile settings\"><em>Android Enterprise &#8211; Device restriction profile settings<\/em><br><\/li><li>Once selected, insert a minimum Company Portal version to&nbsp;<strong>Value<\/strong><\/li><li>Choose an action:<ol><li><strong>Block access:<\/strong>&nbsp;Prevent users from accessing company resources until Company Portal is updated.<\/li><li><strong>Wipe data:<\/strong>&nbsp;The user account that is associated with the application is wiped from the device.<\/li><li><strong>Warn<\/strong>: This will let users know that they need to update the Company Portal.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/image\/serverpage\/image-id\/219757i5123094806956129\/image-size\/large?v=v2&amp;px=999\" alt=\"thumbnail image 12 of blog post titled \n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSupport Tip: Keeping your Company Portal app up-to-date on Android devices\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: If you choose Block access, forcing an update could lead to unexpected data charges at the time of the update.
