Nothing is more frustrating than when a program locks up\u2014and stops responding\u2014for no apparent reason. You can protect your work from these events by using the AutoRecover feature to periodically save a temporary copy of the project you’re working on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modify Recovery Settings<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When the AutoRecover feature is enabled, a backup copy of the workbook is saved every 10 minutes (its default setting). However, you can change the AutoRecover save interval to occur more or less frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Click the File<\/strong> tab.\"Version<\/li>
  2. Click Options<\/strong>.\"VersionThe Excel Options dialog box appears.<\/li>
  3. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/li>
  4. Click in the Minutes<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  5. Enter a value for how frequently you’d like to save AutoRecover information.<\/li>

    Recover Unsaved Workbook Versions<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    If AutoRecover is enabled in Excel, you don\u2019t have to do anything to make it work. Any available unsaved versions can be found in the Backstage view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Click the File<\/strong> tab.\"Version<\/li>
    2. If needed, scroll to the Version history section.<\/li>
    3. Select an autosaved version of the file in the list of recovered files.\"VersionIf the version you need to recover isn\u2019t in the recent list, click the Manage Workbook<\/strong> button and select Recover Unsaved Workbooks<\/strong> to see if the version you need is saved there.The previous version of the file opens. At the top, you see a notification that this is an AutoSaved version.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The file is restored to the previous version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Online Version History<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      If this is a file that\u2019s saved online, there\u2019s another way to view version history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Click the Title Bar<\/strong> button.<\/li>
      2. Select Version History<\/strong>.\"VersionHere you see all the changes that have been made to the file, either by you or anyone the file is shared with.<\/li>
      3. Click Open version<\/strong> for the file you want to restore.\"Version<\/li>
      4. Save an additional copy of the file or click the Restore<\/strong> button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
