Import Outlook items from a .pst file in Outlook for PC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
These instructions assume you’ve already\u00a0exported\u00a0your Outlook email, contacts, and calendar from another instance of Outlook, and now you want to import them to Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- At the top of your Outlook ribbon, select\u00a0File<\/strong>. If your ribbon doesn’t have a\u00a0File<\/strong>\u00a0option in the top left corner, you aren’t using an Outlook app installed on your computer.

<\/li>- Select\u00a0Open & Export<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Import\/Export<\/strong>. This starts the Import\/Export wizard.

<\/li>- Select\u00a0Import from another program or file<\/strong>, and then click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

<\/li>- Select\u00a0Outlook Data File (.pst)<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/li>
- Browse<\/strong>\u00a0to the .pst file you want to import. Under\u00a0Options<\/strong>, choose how you want to deal with emails and contacts, then choose\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

<\/li>- If a password was assigned to the Outlook Data File (.pst), enter the password, and then click\u00a0OK<\/strong>.<\/li>
- If you’re importing the contents of your .pst file into your Microsoft 365 mailbox, choose that mailbox here. If you’re NOT importing into your Microsoft 365 mailbox, choose\u00a0Import items into the current folder<\/strong>. This imports the data into the folder currently selected.

<\/li>- Choose\u00a0Finish<\/strong>. Outlook starts importing the contents of your .pst file immediately. When the progress box disappears, the import is finished. If you’re importing your .pst file to your Microsoft 365 mailbox, you may see a message that it’s trying to connect with Microsoft 365. This happens when the Internet connection is interrupted, even for a moment. Once your Internet connection is re-established, Outlook will continue importing the .pst file.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
Tip:<\/strong>\u00a0If you want to retrieve only a few emails or contacts from an Outlook Data File (.pst), you can\u00a0open\u00a0the Outlook Data File, and then, in the navigation pane, drag and drop the emails and contacts from .pst file to your existing Outlook folders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What data is imported?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
.Pst files are created when you\u00a0export or back up\u00a0email<\/a>, contacts, and calendar to an Outlook .pst file. Outlook makes a\u00a0copy<\/strong>\u00a0of your email to the .pst file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- When Outlook exports emails to a .pst file,\u00a0it includes any attachments<\/strong>. So, when you import a .pst file, you’ll see your attachments.<\/li>
- Outlook does not export meta-data such as folder properties ( views, permissions, and Auto Archive settings); message rules; and blocked senders lists. So, they won’t be imported, either.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
