You can prevent the computer from suspending when closing the lid by changing the setting for that behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Warning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some laptops can overheat if they are left running with the lid closed, especially if they are in a confined place like a backpack. Therefore, consider if changing the default setting (suspend) is the best option in your case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Configuring the lid switch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Open the&nbsp;\/etc\/systemd\/logind.conf&nbsp;file for editing.<\/li><li>Find the&nbsp;HandleLidSwitch=suspend&nbsp;line in the file. If it is quoted out with the&nbsp;#&nbsp;character at the start, unquote it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If the line is not present in the file, add it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"3\"><li>Replace the default&nbsp;<strong>suspend<\/strong>&nbsp;parameter with<ul><li><strong>lock<\/strong>&nbsp;for the screen to lock;<\/li><li><strong>ignore<\/strong>&nbsp;for nothing to happen;<\/li><li><strong>poweroff<\/strong>&nbsp;for the computer to switch off.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[Login]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HandleLidSwitch=<strong>lock<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"4\"><li>Save your changes and close the editor.<\/li><li>Run the following command so that your changes preserve the next restart of the system:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p># systemctl restart systemd-logind.service<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Warning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that restarting the service forcibly interrupts any currently running GNOME session of any desktop user who is logged in.
