However, if you find yourself on a scenario where your device (iMac, MacBook Pro, Air, Mac Pro or Mini) is not responding and you happen to have a Windows device, then you can still be able to make a USB bootable installation media for your Mac OS X to reinstall the operating system using the Recovery Assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These instructions will also work for Windows users, who are running Mac OS X on a virtual machine and need to upgrade to the latest version. For instance, to OS X Yosemite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"macosx_bootbable_usb_requirements\">Things to know before proceeding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you dive into this guide, you\u2019ll need a few things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A broken Mac computer with&nbsp;Mac OS X.<\/li><li>A trial copy of the TransMac software.<\/li><li>One high quality USB flash drive with 16GB of storage.<\/li><li>A copy of Apple\u2019s macOS (DMG file).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have all the necessary ingredients, you\u2019re ready to make a Mac OS X bootable USB using the DMG file of the operating system with the steps below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"macosx_bootbable_usb_steps\">How to create Mac OS X bootable USB installation media<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you can use TransMac, you may first need to partition your USB flash drive with a GPT partition, as a normal MBR partition may not work. To do this, you\u2019ll need to use the Diskpart command-line utility on Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting up GPT partition<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use these steps to set up a USB drive with a GPT partition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you complete the steps, the USB flash drive from MBR to GPT format, you can use the steps below to create a bootable USB installation media to install Mac OS X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating USB install media<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use these steps to create a bootable media to install Mac OS X:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acutesystems.com\/scrtm.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download and install a copy of&nbsp;<strong>TransMac<\/strong><\/a>.<strong>Quick note:<\/strong>&nbsp;TransMac is a paid software, but it has a 15-day trial solution, that gives us more than enough time to move the DMG files to the USB drive from Windows. (If you want to support the developer, you can purchase the full version.)<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/updates-http.cdn-apple.com\/2019\/cert\/061-41424-20191024-218af9ec-cf50-4516-9011-228c78eda3d2\/InstallMacOSX.dmg\">Download OS X El Capitan<\/a> from Apple official website if you do not have a valid DMG file. (Remember that all the data in the USB will be erased. Make sure you take off any important documents.)<\/li><li>Right-click the&nbsp;<strong>TransMac<\/strong>&nbsp;software icon and&nbsp;<strong>Run as administrator<\/strong>.
